22nd – 26th October 2008, Olympia, London
You don’t have to be a winter sports fanatic or a regular on the slopes to enjoy a memorable and exciting day out at the Metro Ski and Snowboard Show.
This year, the show is a fully interactive experience, showcasing a host of new features including “have a go” Curling and a chilled out Ice Bar, alongside existing favourites such as the Ice Rink and the World Resorts Village.
Whether it’s watching a fashion show, checking out the pros in action, doing some shopping or simply sitting back with a drink and soaking up the Alpine atmosphere, there’s something for everyone.
Snow Sports
The centrepiece of the 2008 show will be the 40ft Kicker, allowing some of Europe’s top riders the opportunity to get more air at the show than ever before. The show is hosting the British Snow Tour Invitational Championship (www.britishsnowtour.com) and the London Ride competition (www.thelondonride.com).
Ice Kingdom
For visitors wanting the perfect place to chill out, look no further than The Ice Kingdom. Adults can kick back in a sub-zero environment and listen to DJ’s in the real ice bar or get a little bit more active with the kids on the 150m2 ice rink. The Ice Kingdom even features two Curling sheets where visitors can try out the Winter Olympic sport or take part in some broom hockey with a beat the keeper competition. The visually explosive ice sculpting competition and loveable husky dogs are also must-see features at this year’s show.
Fashion
For the fashionistas amongst you, head straight to the Brand Arena, where practical apparel meets high fashion, with iconic brands such as Westbeach, Columbia and Salomon launching their winter collections. With Land Rover presenting a highly charged, visually explosive fashion show including some slick dance routines, you’re guaranteed to find an outfit and equipment to set you apart from the crowds on the slopes this winter.
World Resorts Village
If you’re craving a taste of something a little continental, experience fine cuisine from across the world, without having to leave the show. Mouth watering delights from France, Austria, Italy and Japan will be sure to satisfy even the finest of palates.
Entertainment
2008 sees the return of the hugely popular Gigloo – the gig in an igloo – playing host to live bands & DJs. With a bigger stage and bigger acts in conjunction with XFM, the Gigloo will be hosting an awesome line up of live music every evening and feature the ever popular DJ and Breakdance workshops during the day.
Get away from it all…
If all the excitement of the Metro Ski & Snowboard Show is getting a bit too hectic, there are several new ways to have a bit of down time. Visitors can take five in the soothing, Northern Lights Experience or head to the World Resorts Village to catch up on what’s new this season with talks from some of the world’s best resorts.

The Urban Ride 08 is an event series to showcase Britain’s top freestyle ski talent.
It is the official UK qualifier for London Ride taking place on the 26th October at the Olympia, London, the showcase event at the Metro Ski and Snowboard Show 2008 (www.metrosnow.co.uk). Through the Urban Ride 10 UK riders will get the chance to qualify for the London Ride and compete against top European Riders.
The competitions will offer riders the chance to show their skills and style on various big air kickers and rails.
The Urban Ride will be filmed and a TV highlights internet broadcast will be available to view through the Urban Ride website later in October.
Riders who qualify at each of the venues will be announced at the end of each night.
Watch this space over the coming weeks for the latest information…
We are pleased to announce the UK’s freshest indoor competition will be returning this year… The Burton Scrap Metal will be bringing along some of the most creative obstacles you’ll get to ride within these fair shores.
Saturday 4th October
10pm – 1:30am
The aim of the Scrap Metal is to hone the rider’s creative side by putting them in front of obstacles that are not your everyday jibs or rails. Taking inspiration from parks like Bear and Park City where they are constantly pushing the envelope in terms of features, Scrap Metal will do the same in three of the UK’s indoor fridges.
The competition will be a slopestyle format with a jam qualifying session going into a two run final to finish at all the events. As usual there will be huge prizes up for grabs for the winners from our partners at Rude Chalets, Analog, Gravis, R.E.D and Anon Optics as well as the crown of 2008 Burton Scrap Metal Champion!
Watch this space for more info on the comp.

Each year we typically review our prices during the late summer and implement any changes with effect from 1st September.
We do not routinely increase our prices every year – indeed the last time that we actually increased our prices was over two years ago in September 2006.
This year however we have had to increase the prices for the activities offered on the snow and ice – primarily this has been driven by the significant increases in the electricity and gas prices that we are charged by the utilities that supply us.
As we have all seen from our electricity and gas bills at home the suppliers are implementing huge increases. The SnowDome business is no exception – we too have seen huge increases in the cost of electricity. One of our biggest costs in the running of the business is the energy costs for the snow refrigeration and the air cooling.
With care and consideration we have regretfully had to increase the ticket prices by the minimum amount we know is required to cover these increases.
Meanwhile we continue to re-invest in the venue and continue to ensure that we provide quality experiences at value for money prices.
Your custom past and present (and hopefully future) is greatly appreciated and we know that the continued vitality of the SnowDome is dictated purely by the relationship that we enjoy with our customers.
Our ethos is to welcome customers old and new into this great facility and for my colleagues and I to make your leisure time with us a real treat.
My sincere best regards – enjoy the snow (and ice, and coffee and great company etc etc etc!),
Martin Smith.

The SnowDome Group have announced that construction of their second snow, ice and leisure venue, to be located at High Wycombe, will commence in September 2008. The planning application was unanimously approved by all members of Wycombe District Council Planning Committee last December. The application has now received the final seal of approval from the Government Office South East.
A rather buoyant Martin Smith, MD of SnowDome Group Limited explained “Even though planning consent was granted at the end of last year the application was forwarded to the Government Office South East as it represented a ‘departure from the local plan’. We were hoping and expecting the process to take a few weeks for them to ratify the local decision from the council and I’m delighted to report that it sailed through quicker than expected. Now, after all this time and hard effort, we are finally in a position to push ahead and build the UK’s second SnowDome”
To be built on the former site of the Wycombe Summit dry ski slope, the new Wycombe SnowDome will be the closest indoor snow centre to London sitting on junction 4 of the M40. The facilities will include a 120 metre real snow slope, 30 metre real snow academy slope, ice rink, dedicated children’s snow play area, children’s party rooms, a specialist snow sports retailer plus food and beverage offerings including a Starbucks Coffee outlet. The existing outdoor 300 metre dry ski slope will remain and a new announcement from Smith indicates there are now plans to place snow on this slope during the winter.
“We are looking forward to utilizing our unique and extensive experience in operating indoor snow with this fantastic new development. After operating the SnowDome in Tamworth for over 14 years we have a wealth of knowledge and a pioneering outlook which continues to push the boundaries of the industry. Indeed it is now our intention to utilize our snow production capability to ‘snow-up’ the outdoor 300 metre slope during the colder winter period. This will create the longest real snow slope in the country by far, with the added benefit of skiing and snowboarding outdoors in beautiful woodland surroundings.
An SMS text service will be in operation to inform our visitors of imminent snow cover on the dendix slope. Just imagine the excitement from skiers and snowboarders when they receive a text announcing that the weather’s good this weekend and that snow is planned for the 300 metre slope. Last weeks cold weather spell we experienced would be the ideal conditions”
The only formality left for SnowDome Group now is to sign off the outstanding 106 Agreement with Wycombe District Council. Such points include the formalizing of the agreed financial contribution to the Wycombe Transportation Strategy, the Master Travel plan which covers matters such as proposals to promote car sharing. Also included within the 106 Agreement is the Woodland Management Plan, which has already been discussed and agreed by the two parties.
Smith concluded, “Now it’s full steam ahead with concluding the construction tender process and awarding the final construction contract. The 12 month build will commence in September 2008 as planned with an opening date of September 2009. This is truly fantastic news from all current and future snow enthusiasts of the region.”
